As the automotive world turned its attention last week to the Los Angeles Auto Show, three startup companies enjoyed a live mentorship session with legendary Silicon Valley investor, Bill Tai, as part of their recognition as the top three standouts in the AutoMobility LA™ 2016 Top Ten Automotive Startups™ competition.

Selected from a pool of over 100 applicants, Argus Cyber Security, Evercharge, and PolySync earned the special recognition by demonstrating an innovative use of forward thinking technology for the betterment of future transportation and mobility needs.

With specializations in cyber security, electric vehicle infrastructure and autonomous driving technology, respectively, the three companies singularly take on substantially different next-generation transportation mobility issues.

Argus Cyber Security develops innovative, ready-to-use security solutions to protect commercial vehicles, fleets and aftermarket connectivity platforms from cyber attacks and breaches – a prime concern in the connected car effort.

Meanwhile, EverCharge aims to make electric vehicle ownership easier by making charging stations accessible to everyone. The goal is to install and manage EV charging systems in multifamily apartment and condominium buildings, particularly in urban areas.

Finally, PolySync has created an autonomous vehicle platform, which acts as an operating system to speed the development, testing and implementation of autonomous driving technologies.

LA Auto Show and AutoMobility LA President and CEO, Lisa Kaz expressed confidence in the selections of finalists saying, “Each of these companies has developed services and products that we believe are significant in the future of mobility, and we look forward to watching their growth in the coming years.”

One startup will be given the unique opportunity to attend the final celebration of the internationally acclaimed 2017 Extreme Tech Challenge. The XTC judging panel is expected to include special guest judge, Sir Richard Branson.

Meanwhile, Argus Cyber Security, a global automotive cyber security company, has announced new groundbreaking automobile Electronic Control Unit Fingerprinting technology for its In-Vehicle Network Protection suite of services. The technology is designed to make it much harder for hackers to perform successful cyber-attacks on vehicles.

Argus claims that for the first time, messages that were maliciously initiated by an unauthorized or wrong ECU can now be identified and and traced to their source. Company testing demonstrates the technology to be highly accurate at identifying malicious messages with zero false positives.

Yaron Galula, Co-Founder and CTO of Argus described the technology as “revolutionary” stating that, “Its implementation will substantially increase the difficulty for hackers to wage a successful cyber-attack.”

ECU Fingerprinting pinpoints a malicious message and the ECU that triggered it –information that previously was unattainable due to the nature of the communication protocol in the existing in-vehicle network.

The technology adds a new and complementary detection method to the company’s multi-layered in-vehicle network protection solutions advancing automotive cyber security to a new level.

Argus customers include car manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers and aftermarket connectivity providers.
